Clearing the technical round is only half the process. The HR round in IT interviews evaluates culture fit, communication, and whether your expectations align with the role — and it can still make or break an offer.

Common HR Round Questions

  • Tell me about yourself (see our dedicated guide on this).
  • Why do you want to leave your current role, or why this company?
  • Describe a conflict with a teammate and how you resolved it.
  • How do you handle tight deadlines or shifting priorities?
  • What are your salary expectations?
  • What is your notice period, and when can you join?

Research the Company Culture Beforehand

Check the company's website, LinkedIn, and any public reviews. Mentioning something specific about their culture or values shows genuine interest, not just a generic application.

Behavioral Questions Need Real Examples

For questions about conflict or pressure, use the situation–action–result structure with a real example, even a small one from college or a previous internship — vague, hypothetical answers are far less convincing.

Be Ready to Discuss Relocation or Shift Flexibility

Technical support and certain development roles may involve rotational shifts or on-site relocation. Answer honestly — mismatched expectations here cause problems for both sides down the line.

Salary Discussion

Have a realistic number in mind based on market research for your experience level and city, and remember you can negotiate once you receive a written offer — see our guide on salary negotiation for a full breakdown.

Ask Good Questions

Asking about the team structure, onboarding process, or growth path shows you're evaluating fit both ways, not just hoping to get selected.

The HR round is where a technically strong candidate can still lose an offer — treat it with the same preparation as the technical round, not as a formality.
